John Rocha made his name as a fashion designer, with haute couture collections shown on catwalks the world over.
Born in Hong Kong of Chinese and Portuguese descent, John Rocha moved to London in the 1970’s to study fashion, and subsequently visited Ireland after using Irish linen as part of his graduate collection. He eventually moved to Dublin to develop his designs and is still continuing to work in a studio in the city.
John Rocha has been designing for over 20 years and continues to take his designs to the next level, recently through the introduction of his eclectic and contemporary jewellery range ‘John Rocha Jewellery’ in 2002.
This designer jewellery range includes simple pieces that can be worn everyday and more dramatic fasion pieces. John Rocha aims to create unique and beautiful pieces of jewellery that complement his contemporary style and reflect his love of craft and tradition. He says ‘All the pieces have a classic beauty and sensual appeal. The shapes and forms are essentially simple and uncomplicated allowing the wearer to create their own individual statements in how they wear them’.
John Rocha’s mantra is about finding what you want and like. He comments, ‘You shouldn’t look at something six months on, and wonder why on earth you bought it’.
